Region A Aging Advisory Council

Meeting Information

  • 10 a.m. the first Wednesday of the second month of each quarter (February, May, August, November)  
  • Region A, Southwestern Commission, 125 Bonnie Lane, Sylva, NC

Overview

  • This committee of community members from different counties around the region carries out advisory functions for Region A related to developing and coordinating community-based systems of services for all older persons in the planning and service area. The committee identifies issues affecting aging adults, and makes recommendations about resources and programs that need to be strengthened or realigned.

Membership  

  • Haywood County has a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 community members on the Region A Aging Advisory Council.
  • Members ideally have a background in or awareness of services for aging adults and issues facing the target population.
  • Vacancies are posted on the county website and distributed to the publication sunshine list as they occur. Representatives from Region A review applications and make appointment recommendations to the Haywood County Board of Commissioners.
  • Members are appointed to three-year terms.
