Child Support

North Carolina Child Support Services offers assistance in the following areas:

  • Location of noncustodial parents
  • Paternity establishment for children born out of wedlock
  • Establishment of support obligations
  • Collection and distribution of support
  • Enforcement of support obligations

Availability

Child Support Services are available to any custodial parent, caretaker, or guardian who is responsible for a child, regardless of income.

Charges

Child Support Services are available free of charge to recipients of some benefits such as Medicaid or Work First Family Assistance. In some instances, cooperation with child support services is mandatory in order to receive the public assistance benefit(s).

Non-public assistance individuals may apply for services by completing an application and paying an application fee.
