2008 Summer Reading program: Catch the Reading Bug!
Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party at Waynesville Library
Saturday, June 14, 2008, 1:00 p.M. – 4:00 p.M.
Game Show Mania begins at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium and contestants can test their knowledge of bugs and current events with Bill Grimsley, master of ceremonies. If you don’t know a lot about bugs, that’s okay—contestants can also score bonus points by eating … things. We will also have fun in our outdoor amphitheater including face painting, a buggy scavenger hunt, and free popcorn and sno-cones for everyone! (Scroll down for full schedule of events!)

Hit the Books!
with the Asheville Tourists and Haywood County Public Libraries!
Haywood County Public Library has another summer reading program with great prizes from area businesses and with the assistance of the Asheville Tourists Minor League Baseball Team. Come by your local library and pick up a Hit the Books score sheet. Read books and score base hits and great incentives. Read three books to make it to first base and win a free child’s admission to the Asheville Tourists game on Sunday, July 20, at 2:00 p.m. Read another three books and your second base prize is a free child’s admission to the Health Adventure in Asheville. You reach third base after reading nine books and you can bring your score sheet to Jude’s Coffee and Creamery for a free ice cream cone. The home base prize is a free round of carpet golf at Maggie Valley Carpet Golf—all you have to do is read twelve books this summer. Finally, bring your completed score sheet with you to the Tourists game on Sunday, July 20, and register for a chance to win the grand prize: admission for four to Ghost Town in the Sky. Register for Summer Reading and have bug fun!
Sign up for Summer Reading and receive a book bag, a bookmark and a reading record. Come back to your local branch library and receive a different incentive each week: a tattoo, a bug eraser, or buggy stickers. Check our calendar of events often so you’ll know when to visit the library and which library to visit. Our special events this summer include Doris Mager from Save Our American Raptors (S.O.A.R.)and her Birds of Prey show, Lindsey Dank from Didgeridoos Down Under, Spotlights Youth Theater, Readers’ Theater and hip-hop with Secret Agent 23 Skidoo.
